Fluid and Hard off to Baltimore!
DB5K GALLERY PRESENTS:
“Foundations of Style Writing: BLACK BOOK BALTIMORE 2008“
MAY 2 - JUNE 28, 2008
OPENING RECEPTION: FRIDAY, MAY 2, 2008 from 7PM to 11PM
“Style Writing is Graffiti but not so necessarily the other way around.” Having been dubbed “Graffiti Art” early on in its adoption by popular culture, the umbrella terminology has ceased to properly represent and distinguish Style Writing from the consistently expanding world of “Street Art” as it is now called. Style Writing is precisely that, a form of handwriting that is studied and practiced to a more intense level of its design components. Ever since it met with the mainstream in the eighties, the Style Writing movement has undergone constant transformation. Fuel from both sources internal and external, forced fast change in a youth culture based art form. The growth and global participation in it can be said shadows any that the world has ever known in such a short amount of time. So to understand the point and purpose of Style Writing we must in a sense dissect it from its most impressive and expansive growth. For the growth it’s self is even for some participants in the form so great that it can obscure and dilute the original objective. What this show is attempting to do is to magnify and examine the fundamental components of participation in an illegal art movement. A movement that both embraces the ideals of freedom of expression and frontiersmen ship but also upholds a strict practice of codes and skills that actually make up the very root base of the Art form.

THE 11th HOUR
Just finished watching the 11th Hour and I’m like turning a new leaf ASAP! I mean I’ve been watching and keeping up to date with the whole global climate problem but dammit there’s real hope. We can totally REDESIGN this whole mess were all in! It’s allready happening and it’s soooo amazing how much we can can improve the entire planet’s conditions. From the way the “WORLD” lives, eats, and treats eachother almost everything can be improve if each individual became AWARE and took steps to flip the script!!!
Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, this captivating documentary explores the perilous state of our planet, and the means by which we can change our course. Contributing to this crucial film are noted politicians, scientists and other ambassadors for the importance of a universal ecological consciousness.
The 11th Hour is directed by Nadia Connors and Leila Conners Peterson and features narration from Academy Award® Nominee Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed, Blood Diamond).
The environmentally friendly DVD packaging is produced with 100% certified renewable resources. A portion of the profits will be donated to Global Green.
